Neil: 101 Questions

What bothers you my son?

Evil is spreading across the world, led by the noble Drow house Arakh. They have a head start and well laid plans. They appear to have vast financial resources, manpower, knowledge, and far better teamwork than us. Yes, order and planning are obviously favored tools of our enemies.

But you have done well thus far.

We are struggling just to stay alive; and it isn't always working I might add. Most of the time we're not even sure what we're supposed to do. Do we stop to help innocents along the way, or leave them to their fate so we might accomplish some greater good? We have a general, very abstract idea of what the greater good is, but no clue how to accomplish it. We're blundering through this war blindly.

Blindly? You have been given several obvious missions: warn Saragost, find the Ragged Man.

Yes, but who and where are the Host? What are their favorite tactics? What are the victory points in this war; the nodes, survival of the Starborn/Host? How widespread is their network of agents and troops? We know virtually nothing about our enemy or how this game is played.

And even if we were to stumble across such valuable information, would we recognize it as such? We've hardly stopped for more than a day here and there to reflect on recent events, to take a step back and look at the big picture. We're constantly rushing off to accomplish our goal, though we know not how.

Do not underestimate what you have. There are nine of you, and you grow in power.

Our abilities have grown tremendously; combat prowess, stealth techniques, spell casting. Our resources are few though. We have two Starborn items now and the orb. We're a little better equipped than we were two months ago. But we still lack knowledge and a clear path.

Where are we headed? How should we prepare? What steps can be taken to win this war? What will we encounter on our journey? Do the means matter, or just the end goal? These questions race through my mind constantly. Good decisions are based on good information, something we sorely need.

Have patience. You have a goal: acquire your Starborn items. When Nuith believes you are ready, she will show you the next step.

I suppose you're right. In the absence of knowledge, perhaps I should work on my wisdom, or better equip the group. Most of them don't recognize my crafting skills as a resource yet. We race about unsure of our destination and poorly equipped. What were those incenses and oils I needed? And where do I find powdered blue aventurine?
