Seebo the Knife: The Calm Before the Storm

Where was I? Really? It's been that long? We have a lot of catching up to do.

Shortly after we returned to Saragost, some very bad things started to happen. We uncovered a few plots to undermine the city from within once the advancing army reached the walls. It seems the Midnight Enclave was working with the Drow and Duergar as their agents. We surmised that Count Crastic, of the City Counsel, was either in league or a part of the Enclave. It was possible he was even higher in the organization than we were aware of. His part would be revealed soon enough though.

Because the Enclave was still after Rumus I had taken on the task of trying to infiltrate the guild and find out why and perhaps try to break the contract. While I was laying low, the others took care of the infiltrators. There was a plan to plant an explosive of some sort at the walls to create a breech. The other plan was to dump a bunch of poison into the city's water supply. They were able to figure out where the bomb components were and who was going to do the poisoning. That's about the time I gave up on the Enclave.

Apparently I had made a name for myself in town and the Enclave wouldn't talk to me. Oh well, it was worth a try. So we knew where the Drow leaders were in the town, and we were running out of time. Casey was against an assault, which I can't say I don't agree with. But we had to do something. I went out to investigate and snoop around the ship they were supposed to be on while Alev informed the council and tried to get some of the local elite guard to help out.

Not finding anything with a cursory search around the boat, we decided the only thing we could do was board the ship and see what was in the hold. Posing as city officials inspecting docked ships, we gained entry to the dock, but things went bad quickly as Tilk bull rushed a sailor into the water. The element of surprise was lost and we rushed onto the ship. Dispatching the first thug was no problem. In fact, if I remember correctly, he was down before I even got to him.

We moved to the hatch leading down into the bowels of the ship and Casey opened it up. Standing below was a Drow in full plate armor just waiting for us to come down. Being the intelligent individuals we are, we pelted him from up top forcing him up to us. A well placed knife in the throat finished him off.

Tilk climbed down the ladder and was getting ready to bust into the next room when the door swung open and two large scorpions walked out. What would you do if you saw two 5 foot scorpions heading straight for you? Well, let me tell you, Tilk is one impressive son of a mother. He dropped those two beasts like they were nothing.

We all climbed down after him as a mage started bombarding him from the next room. The next few moments were a blur as a fierce battle ensued between us and a Drow mage and cleric. These were the Drow leaders, the biggest and baddest in the city. They ran. HA! The cowards ran rather than stay and fight like honorable foes, not that I wouldn't have done the same thing if I was being pounded into oblivion.

We took stock of damage and losses and searched the area finding quite a few goodies which we threw in a sack. Not wanting to lose the trail, Alev rushed back to the dock only to find our foes were apparently gone and none of the guards stationed there saw them.

That was unfortunately the last thing that Alev saw before the column of flame erupted from below his feet. As a last screw you, the cleric appeared and raised the fallen soldiers, including Alev, as undead skeletal warriors. Seeing your friend fall in battle is one of the worst things in the world. Having to fight his raised corpse is unthinkable.

We fought hard and tried to bring down the Drow but they were a little too clever and were able to get away. Not wasting anytime, took the remains of Alev's corpse to the Node hoping against hope that the magic was strong enough to resurrect him.

As luck would have it, Alev rejoined us and we all breathed a sigh of relief. Knowing time was always against us, we made our way for the council and informed them of what had just happened. They wasted no time in putting together a group to deal with the Drow now that we knew where they were.

With the city once again safe for the time being, we took a moment to relax. We now knew the Duergar were set to arrive in two days. We had recovered the poison that was to be used, or at least part of it, and the explosives were confiscated. The calm before the storm had just begun to set in.
